THE BLACK REAPER
Perhaps, one of Kaneki’s most unfiltered personas, Black Reaper Kaneki was a direct result of Haise remembering everything about his past. This Kaneki was unhinged, brutal and had just one aim in his mind– Free Hinami and then die at the hands of Arima.
Everything he did as this persona was because he knew he would have to eventually die at Arima’s hands making him his most suicidal persona as well.
ONE EYED KING KANEKI
The amalgamation of every Kaneki we had known so far. One Eyed King Kaneki was the “almost perfect” version of Kaneki devoid of most of the shortcomings that plagued his previous personas.
But this one, much like the previous ones, suffered from a fatal weakness. His overreliance on himself. His trying to take matters into his own hands, trying to protect everyone around him by himself is what ends up being this Kaneki’s downfall.
POST DRAGON KANEKI
Kaneki after the Dragon Incident is different. Since the start of the story, he had been blaming himself or the world for his tragic life. He had always believed that “The World Was Wrong”. But with everything that had happened to him, since then Kaneki’s beliefs changed drastically.
By the end of the story, he truly believed that “The World Is Not Wrong, It Just Is.” He accepted the fact that your life is what you make of it. This realisation brings forth the most perfect version of Kaneki Ken.
This was the second and also the last part of the series “Different Faces of Kaneki Ken”. In my opinion, Kaneki is definitely among one of the best written protagonists ever. Obviously not in my Top 10s but yeah he IS one of the most iconic ones we’ve ever seen.
